We were looking for new ways to improve search and minimise data entry and maintenance time. During our recent hackathon, we validated ideas with clients and emerged with the solution of Optical Character Recognition (OCR).
With OCR you can easily extract recognised text directly from your engineering data without laborious data entry, improving your data quality and allowing you more flexibility to search. As a bonus, the risk of typos is also greatly reduced as it is completely automated.
OCR also helps solve another big pain point we uncovered across our clients; the management of P&IDs. Even with a great asset management system, P&IDs can still be difficult to organise and manage. With our new OCR features, the content within your P&IDs is detected and stored, significantly improving searchability while reducing your chance of duplication. It also ensures your unique P&IDs remain controlled in your shared data environment.
How OCR works
In RedEyeDMS, you can now scan your drawings to extract information with a single click. Once scanned, you can then Search RedEyeDMS for the content found within your engineering data. When you find what you are looking for, you can simply click and drag the OCR text within your data to automatically populate metadata fields, making it even easier for other users to find what they are looking for. It’s as simple as that!
